March 12, 2020 at 2:22 pm I have two Cummins 6BTA 5.9 370 Diamond recon engines with 300 hours on each. The recon numbers are 60255953 and 60255331. I have pulled both pumps off and will be replacing with Tony’s suggested ones. I would like to keep the others as spares (as we have a very long voyage to undertake this summer) and would love to get a rebuild kit for them. When I check the Quickserve on cummins it lists my pumps as Option Number WP09617 and has a …

March 12, 2020 at 5:30 pm Your pumps are 1730’s, NOT 1727’s.. QSOL still thinks they are 1727’s, but they have been wrong for at least 15 years now.. DO NOT buy Cummins rebuild kits………Go to DEPCO in Florida . IMO, let them do it as the pump requires very special tools to rebuilt right–Not for Average Joe mechanic…

    • SMX 1730 will it fit without engine lift?

November 3, 2019 at 10:39 am I am about to do winter upgrades on both my engines (6BTA 370HP) — I read the post that removing the old Sherwoods will require a slight lift of the engine. Assuming I use the new SeaBoards as replacements will I in the future have to lift the engine or will the SMX1730 slide right in?

November 6, 2019 at 6:12 pm I was able to do a little grinding of the mount under the pump and the SMX pump goes off/on without any issue.

October 16, 2019 at 12:37 pm Here is the scenario — I have a 1998 Tiara 35 Open powered with 2 Cummins 6BTA engines (remanufactured by Cummins with 250 hours on each). I have 2 Optima batteries for start/running and 3 house batteries. The Balmar controllers are new (ARS-5) as are the two alternators (7102NKBW – Tuff Stuff) high amp output (140 amp). The house side(starboard) does a great job of charging the 3 house batteries and using my new voltmeter the Ba…

October 18, 2019 at 2:32 am For me to help ( or anyone to do this realistically) from afar, I need DC power distribution diagram showing how the engines are wired to the starting batteries and exactly how the house is connected………… You do have a common NEG ground (like 1/0 or 2/0 ga cable ) between all batteries, and the engines correct? Also, and important– You need to be sure you have the grid / air heater circuit disconnected during any…

September 4, 2018 at 9:53 am Just got a boat (35′ Tiara) with twin Cummins 6BTA which had been repowered by Cummins Recon — the new engines have approximately 290 hours on them. I tried to use the Cummins Quickserve online to get parts for them but when I enter the S/N nothing comes up? FYI my serials are #60255953, #60255331. I have already replaced some of the ancillary equip surrounding the engines like the alternators, voltage regs, new start batteries (O…
