May 18, 2021 at 8:26 am Hello All- I’m looking at a 31 Sportfisher (about 11,000 LB dry weight) boat that is powered with twin Cummins 6BT 210 HP (I believe they are original to the boat 1987). My question is at 420 HP would this boat be underpowered or are these engines adequate for this size boat? Thanks, Jonathan

April 26, 2019 at 1:13 pm Iā€™ve sent Tony Athens these same pictures for review, but wanted to get a thread going with my progress for all to see. Twin QSBs. ACs have been serviced 1x by a previous owner (there were 4). I donā€™t believe they removed the AC and bench serviced. Iā€™ve only done my stbd AC at the moment. Slight green corrosion on both caps. No performance issues pointing me to any problems. Caps came off easily as expected. Top zinc was mostly intact …

April 26, 2021 at 11:57 am Roky, you could always give distilled white vinegar a try too. My last aftercooler service interval was rather short so tubes weren’t bad and the vinegar cleaned them up nice.

August 8, 2020 at 7:29 am Twin 6BTA 330. Here is the situation We were coming in from fishing yesterday and running down swell so I went to push the boat to a higher cruise. That is when I discovered that the starboard motor would only achieve approx 2250rpm. It would hit 2250 on the normal spot on the throttle lever the. You could just keep advancing it and nothing would change. The port motor would rev higher. I went into the engine room while running and I could push …

March 31, 2020 at 2:23 pm Iā€™ve been Searching the forums and havenā€™t seen the exact flow recommended for flushing the raw water side with pool acid. Iā€™ve seen to use 10:1 ratio. Can someone comment on the Work flow? How long to let it run through the engine. How long to let it sit and so on. Thanks

April 5, 2020 at 9:36 am Matt, This is a recent response I made in a trawler forum, on a post asking about Barnacle Buster, and a cheaper solution for a flush. “I did a Barnacle Buster recirculating flush a few years ago. Works great and something you should do every once and a while. What I’ve been doing every year at the time I winterize the boat, is to soak the raw water system with a product called “Acid Magic”, about $20 a gallon. Acid Ma…

    • zf 220a reversing input for new used prop

February 25, 2020 at 8:25 am I bought a to good to pass up boat on a auction last fall. It’s newton boat with a 300 hp 3116 cat and a zf 220a transmission. It sat for years. probably 10 at least. It 19 hours total on it. To make a long story short the running gear (shaft and prop) are done. With the lack of zinc and maintenance I am replacing both. It has a l/h 21/20 prop. I have found a very good used prop but it is a 21/20 r/h. I’m going to reverse the input…

    • Cummins repower exhaust questions

March 29, 2019 at 8:08 pm The 33 Tiara repower questions continue. The boat currently has 3208t 320hp. With lift mufflers. It appears that it is going to be quite difficult to switch away from the lift mufflers because of space constraints. What is this forums opinion on this style of exhaust. Also, the boat has a bypass raw water cooling line that dumps at the end of the exhaust. I believe this is because of the lift muffler. If I was to reuse the lift muffler system. …

March 27, 2019 at 8:11 pm Avid reader, New to posting here. All info appreciated Repowering a 1989 33 Tiara fly bridge. It currently has 3208T 320hp. Planning to swap to 6BTA 330-370hp. I’m sure I will have a million questions for this forum but I need to start with what transmissions can work. A friend has the same boat repowered with Cummins and his transmissions are 10deg down angle. I have found a good set of ZF 80a. Which I believe is a 8 Deg down angle. Is 2 …

March 31, 2019 at 6:37 am There are twin disc in there now. The 3208 sit on a huge angle. Iā€™m pretty sure the twin disc have no down angle. I think the Cummins are supposed to go In as close to flat as possible.
