    • Will the SMX QSB Seawater Pump fit my 1999 Cummins 6BTA5.9M3 engine

March 23, 2024 at 5:39 am I have a 1999 Cummins 6BTA5.9M3 marine engine, ESN 45777183.Ā  Will the SMX QST seawater pump fit that engine?Ā  It is not 100% clear to me from the sbmar.com product description. SMX QSB Seawater Pump I am looking for a spare pump.Ā  The Sherwood P1730C pump I recently installed experienced a cam screw fatigue failure after only 380 hours of use.Ā  I see that the SMX QST seawater pump uses two of these screws, and although that should be better,…

March 24, 2024 at 6:50 am You CANNOT use a QSB pump on your mechanical engine –It’s made to be belt driven ALL SMX pumps have the double cam screw by original design besides other unique features that make it what it is.

November 19, 2023 at 9:55 am There is a real good chance this could be easily adapted if you are still “engine down”.. Cummins Marine 6BTA 5.9 M3 Injector Lines (Bosch P7100, JWAC 260/270 HP)

    • 6BTA 5.9 black smoke above 1600 RPM

September 1, 2022 at 4:09 pm I have a single 1998 Cummins 6BTA 5.9 M3 engine, CPL 1975 in my 1999 Nordic Tug 37 with 4251 hours on it. At speeds above 1600 rpm, I have black smoke coming out of the exhaust (more erpm, more black smoke). Power, performance, and temperatures all normal. I pulled all injectors and had them rebuilt (4 out of 6 just dumping fuel). Replaced all injector seals / washers with new, including fuel line seals. To my surprise, I still have the black sm…

April 19, 2023 at 5:06 pm Mark, Not sure where you are getting your info, but per the spec sheet on yourĀ  specific engine,Ā  in aĀ  test cell under certified/very controlledĀ  conditions, with your engine loaded to 315 BHP at 2800 RPM, 56″Hg is the number- +/-Ā  5%.. Understand your engine room is not controlled as to these “conditions”. If your prop is not loading your engine to 315BHP boost will be less.Ā  If your engine does not make an accurate 2800 RPM …

    • ZF Marine IRM280PL gear rattle / chatter

This topic has 1 reply, has 2 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 6 years ago

April 17, 2018 at 12:34 pm I have a ZE Marine model IRM280PL transmission coupled to a Cummins 6BTA5.9M3 330 hp engine in my 1999 Nordic Tug 37 with currently just over 3000 hours on them. Ever since I purchased the boat at 2010 hours, I heard the gear rattle/chatter when at idle speed and the transmission in gear (only at that time). A slight increase in engine speed would eliminate the rattle/chatter (similar result to what was posted on your website). Last year I ch…

April 20, 2018 at 6:15 am If you are getting gear rattle or clatter above an idle, and especially above 1000 RPM, your torsional coupling is most likely ready to fail, or has completely lost its “damping qualities”, or both.. Yes, I would be concerned.. Only solution, slide back the gear or lift it out and replace it.. There are not less that 3- styles for this engine / gear arrangement, and long term fied experience has shown some are better than others.. I…

    • Closest current model match to ZF Marine model IRM280PL

April 17, 2018 at 12:48 pm What is the closest ZF Transmission model to a 1999 ZF Marine model IRM280PL transmission? I am interested in what posted tips and suggestions would be applicable. In particular, the comments about measuring the transmission oil level. My transmission OM states to measure the transmission oil level when the engine is running and in neutral and idle speed. Once the dipstick is removed, oil spurts out aggressively from the opening. I think th…

April 18, 2018 at 5:46 am Luke, ZF changed their Gear ID nomenclature about 10 years ago.. Your Model numbed is now called a ZF 280-1. There are also some physical internal & external changes, but if something did happened to yours, the change out is easy.. As to oil–A quality SAE HD 30 W meets the spec. Some 15W-40 also meet the spec. Oil level & checking–The manual is quite confusing on and if you ask an employee at ZF, you will not get a solid an…
