February 21, 2019 at 5:10 pm Hello – First, I apologize if this has been covered previously. I am getting close to purchase a 2000 Year boat with two 8.3 6CTA that did well during the engine survey. I come from an automotive manufacturing background and our quality system requires that we maintain a good set of spare parts for “key equipment”. On the boat, I have concluded that the engines are “key equipment”. I expect to take the boat to Ba…

February 16, 2019 at 2:28 pm The motor is a 2007 QSC 8.3 500hp. About 1100hrs used in saltwater. No fresh water flush after use. So I finally got around to taking my cooler and exchanger apart. Pics below. I have a few questions. For the heat exchanger, the tubes seem pretty slimy on the anti freeze side. Is this normal? Will the acid bath take care of the crud in the second pic? I rodded the tubes and most of it was clean. the third pic shows what came out. In th…

January 23, 2019 at 9:07 pm Hello, Iā€™m hoping to get some advice regarding a coolant leak that I noticed today while checking on my boat. I have a 1999 Formula 41pc fitted with twin Cummins 6CTA Diamonds. After the cold snap that we just had in Philadelphia I decided to check on the boat as it is on the hard for the winter. During my inspection in the engine room, I spotted engine coolant resting ontop of the port exhaust manifold. It appears to be coming from some type …

February 24, 2019 at 4:19 pm I finally had some free time to stop by the boat today and get the exhaust manifold cap gasket done. I got completely sidetracked and did the Aftercooler service but the whole purpose of this post was regarding the manifold cap gasket leaking. I started by draining about 3 gallons of coolant from the exhaust manifold. I was able to drain the mainifold by removing the bung plug on the turbo. I circled it in the picture. To ensure that the coolant…

    • Oil pan bolt missing

October 29, 2018 at 10:32 am Hello everyone, I am new on the forum here and also new to Diesel power in general having just upgraded from a 1997 SeaRay 330DA with twin 7.4MPI to my 1999 Formula 41PC with twin Cummins 6CTA’s. I have been poking around the bilge getting familiar with everything and I keep focusing on the fact that both engines seem to be leaking oil as there are absorbent mats under them collecting the leaking oil. I replaced the mats with new ones to …

December 6, 2018 at 10:07 am Tony , Thank you very much for the reply and also for confirming that the valves will need adjustment at 1000 hours. I have read most of the articles pertaining to this engine and I will definitely give the marine age article a read as well, I must say that the articles that I have read thus far have been extremely informative. Once I have some more free time I will be happy to upload some pictures of the bolt that I found in the bilge here and …
