August 12, 2019 at 1:23 pm Recent repower- older 250hp 6bta in a 236 Mako inboard. Engine was a spare irrigation unit in storage. Little to no use from what I was told. I just acquired the boat and love it. I realize I need to upgrade cooling system tank and plumbing away from the old ācorner mounted tankā system. Main question here is do I need a riser? Iām not comfortable killing engine while out fishing due to possible backflow to turbo. Turbo has some broken blades …

July 25, 2019 at 9:41 am Hi, Anybody have any idea why one 5.9 6BTA which runs great will get to cruise at 2500 rpms then have the rpms drop to 2000 and then return 2500, and repeat. New fuel filters. The other engine runs fine. 150 hours on recons.
13 RepliesAugust 2, 2019 at 7:52 am Racors and last-chance filters changed. Topped off fuel, sea trialed last night, problem solved! Wish all could be so easy. David, gaskets are fine at fuel fill. Thanks.

SMX 1730 Installation

June 5, 2019 at 8:26 pm I have Sherwoods Raw Water Pumps on both my 6CTA8.3 Cummins. I’m planning on proactively upgrading to the SMX 1730 pumps. Never having done this particular job before, I see that it is gear drive. My question is, do I have to drain the oil first in order to change them out?
2 RepliesJune 6, 2019 at 5:01 am Agree with David. The oil drains out of the “gear case” when the engine is off. The oil is engine oil, drains into the oil pan. Hope this helps. I have also done the upgrade, easy.

December 26, 2018 at 11:30 am Hi to all and Happy New year!! I found that my alternator for my cummins motor is overcharging past 14volts. This causes the alternator field 15 amps fuse to blow, and then the alternator stop charging. Is the alt voltage regulator damaged?any suggestion? Thanks
