I am changing the transmission fluid/oil in my ZF 301A transmissions and have a couple of questions: * Where do I put in the new oil (dipstick)?  Don’t believe there is a filler cap on this ZF transmission. * Am I able to remove all of the oil via the dipstick or do I need to remove the oil drain plug?    ThanksAdam

Yes you can suck it out that way, but even easier may be  to put  the oil pressure line that exits the pump into an appropriate container and start the engine.. The oil will all pump out until the pump sucks the transmissiom sump dry or sucks air and looses prime.. No ISSUE doing this ..

    Thanks

    Hello Tony,

Yes, this is very helpful.  It tells me that I can fill the oil via the dipstick hole, thank you!

The outstanding question is.. can i suck the oil out via that dipstick hole or do i have to use the oil drain on the bottom?  I ask because the oil drain is in a tight spot.

    Thoughts?

    Adam

Thank you for the reply.  I have seen this diagram before, but doesnt really answer my questions and dont believe it speaks to my exact transmission.  My ZF 301a doesnt have that drain fill.

Do you know if I can also extract the oil from dipstick vs using the drain plug?  I ask as it’s not in the most ideal access point.

    Thanks
