Ive got a pair of 2000 6ctas in a boat that I bought as a project.  Engines start and run fine although port now idles 200rpm below starboard and has less power.  Both engines will spin in neutral up to 3k rpms but under load port wont go past 1400 or so.  650hrs on the clock and I do not know prior history.  I have a spare 100hr 6cta that I bought for parts so I have turbo, coolers etc.  What should I look for first?  There doesnt appear to be any blowby at all at least be removing the oil fill caps and checking that way.  No soot in the bilge but blows soot heavily when trying to get on plane.  Thank you for the replys

A clogged aftercooler IS an engine performance issue.  As he and I both posted – the aftercooler needs to be pulled apart on the bench.

Tony, you don’t think it’s an engine performance issue? It’s the port that doesn’t seem to be pulling its weight.

    1. DO NOT waste your time swapping aftercoolers unless it,  or your existing ones are serviced on the bench per my protocol..That would be a complete wasted effort and accomplish ZERO as to what matters. Knowing the internal condition of the most important of the the engine air breathing system.

      2. On the surface,  it sounds  like you  are grossley over propped by  the tune of 3-4 inches of pitch

My 2-cents worth based on what you have posted..

1——Boat is way heavier that you think (probably pushing 4000-6000 lbs heavier than when new)

2——-Boat bottom and runing gear are far from “Baby Butt Smooth & Clean”

My Opinion:   Your existing prop dimentions would be marginal if your boat trully weighted 32000 lbs.. The number you want is an accurate 2700 RPM when the boat is fully loaded.

Any black smoke when tying to get up on plane ?

Without having a gear ratio. we are all just wasting time.

That’s a lot of prop..  What make/model boat?  Boat pics?

Ever pull the aftercoolers apart for full bench servicing?

Have you pulled the exhaust for a turbo inspection?
