Hi there, Both of my twin disc gear boxes start in any position. Is that a normal operation?  99/98 B series 330 with twin disc.  Thx – Lew

If you don’t have neutral safety switches, the engines will be able to start in gear. It doesn’t have anything to do with clutches. The neutral safety switches on my ZF gears are threaded into the box the shift levers attach to on the gear. The wire that carries the “start” signal goes from the helm START switch to the safety switch, then to the magnetic start solenoid. The switch only lets the ‘start’ signal go to the mag solenoid if the shift levers are in neutral.

    Thx Clark,

Just checking. Someone mentioned a clutch problem, but both my motors start in gear.

It may be normal.    Mine does the same and it is also a T.D. gear.

You could modify it with a neutral safety switch , either on the controls or on the gearbox so unless the direction controls are in neutral the engine will not start or crank.
