I will remove the fuel port and S-board coolers and like to place the transmission coolers in their location.

The original TM coolers are mounted on a good size mounting bracket behind the after coolers. The picture on the SBmar site shows it to be suspended just by the rubber hose coming from the raw water pump and the lower cap on the aftercooler.

So my question is there no other support required, or is there a modified bracket I can not see in the picture? Also, will the oil in and out hoses have to be changed to be custom-made to compensate for the difference in length from the original location?

I would appreciate any input from others that have done the same already.

    Thanks,

    Herman

    Your comments…

Thank you for the replies, Tony. If SBmar has any available guidelines or parts for sale, please let me know.

I am a retired marine engineer/WTK from the NL so no problem to do it however, if I can save time by using existing parts I will do that.

    Thanks,

    Herman

    Gear cooler re-location

The why in simple.. We have be doing this change on QSL9’s and 6CTA 8.3’s for years because when tucked in behind the gear cooler access is nearly impossible without removing the aftercooler and installing hoses & sending units is also an impossible task.. The aftercooler cap needs to be properly rotated and a new hose and crossover pipe connection needs to be sorted out.. Also the the gear cooler need to be wire/bonded to the engine blockĀ to eliminateĀ any electrical potential.Ā This is a simple upgrade for us for but may not be for “average Joe”Ā boat/engine owner. Yes you should be able to do it but why. In the regular place above the transmission itā€™s out of the way. Also putting it before the after-cooler May require a step-up hose to fit the aftercooler.Ā
as far as oil hoses they would need being measured after mounting or have extensions made with the proper male/female ends. Only advantage Ā to this is that it could be switched back if it did not work out.Ā
There should be a metal bracket that clamps around the body and attaches with a single bolt right next to the 10 AMP circuit breaker button.Ā

one of my engines came with one the other did not so I bought a second one.Ā

I too took off the fuel coolers and replaced with a single piece Trident silicone hose.Ā
