    Hi,

I have a Sea Ray 400 sedan bridge with twin all-mechanical Cummins 6CTA-8.3M’s in it. They are running great, but as we know, analog helm gauges are only so accurate. My tachs, for example, read 50RPM low on the SB and 50RPM low on the Port. That’s not too big of a deal as I make sure to account for that while operating.

But I’d love to see the actual tach readout on my chartplotter. My prior boat was a 320 Sundancer with twin Mercruiser 5.7’s that were SmartCraft enabled. I put a NMEA2000 network in that boat and had all the engine data (tachs, temps, pressure, etc.) from the ECM’s at the helm. I’d like to do similar with this boat. The SMX Digital View looks like it would get me there, but here’s the catch: I don’t want to add any additional displays to my helm. I just want to get the info on the NMEA2000 network so I can display it on my chart plotters. Adding 2 more displays would be redundant, expensive and more complicated (as I would have to reconfigure my helm). I’d prefer to leave the analog gauges in place and just display the data on my plotters.

Can we get a version of the SMX Digital View Digital Display (https://www.sbmar.com/product/smx-digitalview-digital-display/) without the actual display? It looks like you offer a the NMEA 2000 Gateway & Harness Kit, to send the data across the NMEA2000 network, so the pieces exist. A display-less SMX DVDD would be an excellent product option to offer as it would lower the cost per system by many hundreds of dollars.

    So… Is a display-less SMX DVDD system a possibility?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Steve, short answer is… it is not possible because the screens themselves are the actual N2K gateway. There are other systems out there but they require much more “interaction” to configure and program between the engine and NMEA network. If you’re technically hands on, then that may be the way to go…
