I have twin Cat 3208 TAs (375HP) appx 1200 hrs 1994 vintage. Reaching 2800 rpm easily. EGTs 850 max. New turbos, SBMAR ultrasound cleaned after-coolers. SBMAR fuel filtration system. SBMAR risers….etc etc
The engines came with Walker Airseps. I am a fan of Racor CCVs having converted previous B370s (thanks to Tony).
The Walker air filters (K&N?) are brand new… and all seems good right now. Its the long term issues of gumming up after-coolers / turbos that I worry about.
Question is, I want to add Racor CCVs (4500) into the Walker system – shock horror!
If you can filter and coalesce nasty blow-by twice without compromising crankcase pressures etc what do I have to loose? Looking at the Airseps they seem pretty simple – a fibrous media (wool?) in a circular complication that slows the velocity of the blow-by and allows the oil to coalesce on the media and drain to the crank-case.
I would capture the “puke” at the Racor. I would remove the check valve apparatus at the Walker and replace with a puke bottle vs returning the gunk (if any) to the oil. I would probably even keep the Walker vacuum relief valve/filter in place.
What do you think?
Thanks
