6BTA 250s, engine starts but will not continue to run because the solenoid will not remain in the “hold” position. Starboard engine only.

This started after thoroughly cleaning engines; ignition alarms for both engines stopped working right after that (but gauges on dash came on) and engines ran. Then the solenoid issue arose the next time I tried to run them several days later. I assumed moisture intruded to harness connections as well as connections to the solenoid. I checked and cleaned those. Now alarm sounds when ignition is switched on but no go w/ the solenoid?

    Any Ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the posting the resolution. Did you take any pics? If so, post them please. They would be helpful to others.

Removed the solenoid and disassembled, thoroughly cleaned. Lots of black stuff (carbon?) in the cylinder. Replaced and now it holds. Thanks for the input.

I had a similar issue. FWIW after much ado it was the Sea Fire (Fireboy) module failing. If you have one of those extinguishers, try bypassing it and see if the problem remains.

Might try swapping the solenoid between engines. Should be relatively easy and will put you “in the ball-park” of where the problem is located. If the problem moves to the other engine, perhaps then solenoid or connector at fault. Otherwise, could be much more difficult to isolate. Good luck.

Start with looking up the wiring diagram(s) for your engine on this web site.. Study them, and go from there.. The circuitry for this system is simple.
