I have Cummins 6BT 220 HP engines.  I replaced the waterlift muffler on one engine and connected the muffler to the exhaust elbow with a blue silicone hump connector.  I got occasional leaks around the muffler-hump connector and a local Cummins mechanic resealed it with plain lithium grease.  It seems to be working in stopping the leak but would silicone grease be a better choice?

Similarly, I’m replacing a 2-3/8 inch coolant hose and having trouble getting it to go onto the hard pipe connector.  Would silicone grease be acceptable, or would that have any interaction with the coolant?

RECTORSEAL #5  (AKA “Yellow shit” in my shop) for all hose connections that run at surface temps that are at or below  the temperature  of the valve cover or coolant tank  on your engine after is  warmed / stable .. Your hand is all you need to tell you that..
