    On a 2004 Cummins 270 (@200 hours) the gear cooling unit drips water, even when the engine has not been operated for a long time. First question is, where does the water come from if the water pump is not operating? Second is, is it usual for this unit to leak? It’s a new-to-me boat.

    The various seawater components on every engine  drain down differently depending on the geometry of how they are installed and the hoses connected to them.

    I don’t think there’s any way any of us can get an idea of what your issue may or may not be without good pictures so we can see what you are seeing ……
