I have an early 6BT (CPL 742) with the Delphi Lucas CAV Injection Pump.  I am re-wiring my engine (old harness is gone) and am trying to figure out the wiring for the fuel shutoff solenoid.  I have reviewed all the wiring schematics on the forum and in Tony’s Tips.  It appears that my shutoff valve only uses the purple lead from the ignition and has no white lead from the mag switch.  Is it correct that there is not a separate “suck-in” white wire on my model?  Will 14AWG wire from the helm be enough or should I use heavier gauge wire?  If so, what gauge should the purple from the helm be?

The “purple” wire that will go to the CAV pump will get an ignition “on” 12 Volt signal.

I am not sure about wiring it to the MAG switch tho.  The MAG switch will get a 12 volt signal when “cranking” to activate the starter.

I rewired my engines and kept it as simple as possible…we are in the “marine” environment and every less connection we have is one less that will corrode over time…

14 gauge is 100% OK this signal does not draw barely any amps.  The solenoid does nothing more than hold up a simple rubber plunger via a small magnet.  She draws next to nothing

Many times factory wiring will share connection points to save in overall wire lengths etc but for this I would run a single “direct” wire from the ignition “on” to the fuel shut off solenoid

    Hope this helps
