I’ve got an intermittent problem with my QSB 5.9. It won’t go to full power. The throttle position indicator on my vessel view display will show somewhere between 40 and 50% and I can only get about 1500 to 1600 RPM. There are no fault codes displayed. The problem will clear when the engine has been shut down for a while, but may come back at any time. However, if it runs Ok it will keep running Ok until it is shut down, and if power is restricted it will remain restricted until the engine is shut down. Has any body got any ideas?

interesting
so I have the same throttle and over time the starboard actual throttle handle has become loose …. the port still has the pronounced click into the first forward and reverse. but the starboard one s actually loose ( has some play in it front to back and side to side) it still works fine but im wondering if anyone has see this and how it can be tightened? or do I need to contact rick at Glendenning ? if so can someone send his info please .. thanks

Scott, sounds like you’ll need the processor replaced and/or repaired… Let’s see what Rick says…

Thanks again Derek, looks like I might have to replace the processor. My max voltage should be 4.05 but I only get 2.3 when the fault is present.Ā
April 7, 2017 at 8:22 am #17227No when I installed my system everything worked fine just couldn’t get it to full throttle. Yes they replace the processor and all was good . In my boat now I have a zf system that you have to go into the menu and set the voltage for the engine have if it remember correctly it was 3 to 4.7 volts for my qsm11Ā

Thanks Derek, I assume it as the control processor that was replaced, and not the throttle handle. Also was your problem intermittent?
April 6, 2017 at 3:40 pm #17192I had the same problem before with my Glendenning system on a qsc 500 I ended up having the wrong voltage coming from my controller to the engine sent it back they fixed it and overnighted it back

Engine guardian mode
I am waiting for Rick to get back to me. In the meantime has anyone experienced Engine Guardian Mode in operation? In particular what RPM were you limited to and did you notice what percentage throttle was displayed on the Vessel view display?

Glendinning
Hi Corey, I will email service at Glendining. Thanks so much for your help.

Yes, it sounds like the EEC system is not doing what it is supposed to especially as the voltage should RISE as throttle input is increased… I would suggest getting a hold of Rick Panish over at Glendinning and have him help you troubleshoot the EEC controller… their support is very good.

Three Pin Volt Test
Hi Corey, finally did the test you suggested. Not easy as the test didn’t work unless the plugs were reconnected. I finally managed to get a couple of fine wires into the female side and I could then reconnect the plugs. Anyway the voltage readings were 4.23V at idle throttle, 3.9 at idle in gear, steady reduction in voltage up to the point where the failure manifets. At this point voltage is 2.7, and it stays at 2.7 as I further increase throttle. So I guess this means ECM is Ok and the fault lies in the ETS control processor or the control head?

Three pin volt test
Yes, I know the plug you mean, I will check the voltage and let you know how I go. Might be a week or so till I get back to the boat.Ā

Voltmeter…
Can you pull the 3-pin throttle plug off the 40-pin harness near the engine and test your variable voltage range from the throttle system? You should see about 1.0V – 4.5V steady as you manipulate the throttle handle… if not, you’ll need to dig deeper into the EEC4 box… “fly-by-wire” is tough to troubleshoot.

Controls
When you say “Active” and Warm/Sync”… do you have an electronic control system like Glendinning or ZF Mathers? OR?
March 8, 2017 at 6:35 pm #16160If you had cruise control it would normally be a three switch panel…one with “Cruise” one with SlowRPM and one with +/- to adjust RPM.Ā

Cruise control
do you have a cruise button .if that is on Ā you will never get above a certain rpm no matter what you do with throttle.could be a problem with that intermittently.
