I have pretty much typed my fingerprints off trying to find specific/generic guidelines for EGT readings…Volvo was no help….this is the first website/forum I have located that actually discusses specific EGT readings…I saw a data sheet on this website for a Cummins diesel that provided EGT readings…does anyone know if the same information is available for Volvo-Penta TMD 100As and if so, where ?? Any help would be appreciated…SkipperSeal

    Trevor,

I do not know if this will help or not, but what I will put forth is based on 30+ year of dealing with many types of 4-stroke high speed diesel turbocharged engines dating from the mid-50 to current. All of these engines have been in the .5 to 4 liter per cylinder displacement and all have had rpm ranges in the 1600-3400 range with hp levels in the 20-70 HP per liter range………..Your old TMD 100 easily falls in this range..

Next parameter that matters here is the design of your exhaust manifold and turbo.. I do not have any direct experience with that engine ( from the early 80’s?) , but does it have a coolant cooled turbo and exhaust manifold? Or, are either on them dry and thermally wrapped?

Your engine is about 10 Liters, right? Max HP and rated RPM?

Where are you measuring EGT? Before the turbo, or just after it?

Fill in those blanks and I’ll give you a number that will be close enough to work with.

yes I’ve seen them for volvo engines. It is usually located in the installation service manual. You will have to search the web or try different boat/engine forums that may have those shared files for volvo. Seaboard has great resources for Cummins, but I don’t believe they deal with Volvo’s too much.
