Trying to isolate what I am convinced is an electrical issue causing a high reading on my temp guage.

Is it possible to hardwire the guage on it’s own circuit. Running a wire from a known good hot, to the guage. Then another wire from the guage to the sender to a known good ground.

Trying to separate the guage and reading from the wiring harness entirely….

I switched gauges and it stuck with the motor. I shot both engines same spot (tstat housing) and both read about the same, 1 or 2 degree difference. The guage will show almost 200 and the tstat housing shows 180 or less (prior to 160 degree stats). So I’m not dtressed about it actually overheating. Also have a new sender in it.

I cleaned the contacts and wire harnesses as well, so now I’m wondering if I’ve got a broken wire, corrosion or whatever specific to that gauge in the harness.

I’ll try wiring it up on it’s own dedicated circuit and see what it reads.

For sure you can run dedicated power, ground and signal …. if it’s only one gauge have you tried switching P & S to see if the assumed error stays or goes with the gauge. Have you tried an IR gun shooting both engines at the same locations and compared? Such as at the tstat housing and exhaust manifold…
