Hi,

On this 1992 Mediterranean 38, with two 6BTA5.9 210HP, the vibration isolators (engine mounts) seem to be shot, at least that is my guess.
Boat is vibrating/rattling like crazy when in idle, and rattles even more when idling in gear.
When raising the RPMs to 1100 and above, in gear or not, rattling and vibration subsides.

Pretty sure these are the original OEM ones and engines have 1500h on each. See pics.

Questions:

• Which isolators: The 3349229 (softer rubber) or 3399230?
• My guess is the softer one, since they are 210HP only.
• Any removal and installation tips?
• Seems straight forward on the front ones, the rear ones might be lil trickier.
• Do you let the new mounts settle for a few days before doing prop alignment (boat is in the water)?
• Anything else to consider?

Much appreciated! Cheers!

What did you end up doing?

I have the same boat w/ same engines and same symptoms. Did you replace with the bushings inc or go with the Barry/SMX mount?

Thanks Tony! Good to know that the Bushing Inc ones are not desirable…

• Are you suggesting to lower the aluminum L brackets attached to the boat, or modify the brackets between the engine and vibration isolators?
• And are there different engine brackets available, which would add the needed clearance?

Your isolators were made by Bushing Inc close to 30 years ago, and when new, IMO, they “sucked” as to providing good isolation.. Change to Barry mounts, and if do right, you’ll think you have “electric motors” by comparison……………………………………………..But you have a BIG issue–Your mounts are super low profile and you will have to reconfigure all of the bracketing to install Barry mounts.. Very Doable, but you need to be very hands-on and have the right tools to do it.. Drawings attached…You need at least a inch , minimum, but 1.5″ would make it easier
