My alternator has stopped putting out power.  I want to replace it with essentially the same alternator and would like help confirm my selection.  My cummins has 5,100 hours and is 2001 vintage.  After 23 years, this alternator appears to have done its job!   Here are photos.     The Tag looks to read Delco Remy 12V 105 Amp made for Cummins.  It is a 12V, 3-wire alternator putting out 105 amps.

Yes – i have cleaned up the 3-Wire Harness, as it is corroded.  I used 600 grit sand paper to clean it up.

I see TWO options on the sbmar store, that are BOTH 19 SI 12V 3-Wire with Pulley.  One is priced at (sale pricing) $683 & the other is $415.  The difference is not apparent to me.

    My novice questions:

    1. What is the difference in the 2 Alternators
    2. Which Alternator is best fit, based on my Photos.  I included mounting bracket &b pully pics.
    3. Is it feasible for me to go from 105 Amp to 160amp without changing cabling?
    4. How do I get it poweder coated?
    5. Will it come with the correct Pully?

    Thank you in advance

    Properly Rebuilt alternators

Rob had them rebuilt at a 1st class shop & they could easily be “better than new”…..  IMO,   well worth the extra effort.

The higher amperage will only be pulled from the alternator if your load demands it.  Should not be an issue as to setup as you should have a short heavy wire running back from the alternator right there to the starter lug, like a no. 2 wire.

Another option is to pull the alternator and have it gone through on the bench.  I just did both of mine proactively.

    19SI Delco Type alternatots–Choices

Listed are  GENIUINE Cummins Delco– Just like you have now

    AND

The others are aftermarket at 105A, 140A and 160A

All will do what you need and are Plug & Play as to fit

But based on the history of yours, to me the choice woold be clear
