      January 21, 2019 at 8:42 pm We all want to properly prop our boat. My issue is my boat is a 34 ft shrimp trawler and is always heavily loaded and typically pushing nets creating increased load. Am running a 300 hp Cummins 8.3 gear is 2:1 and currently burning approx 7 gph at 1500 rpm. Help or suggestions on prop size appreciate d

      January 22, 2019 at 7:54 am Real.simple…………………..Gear down to a lower ratio ( like 2.5 to 3.5:1).. Increase the diameter of your shaft to not less than 2″.. Add as much diameter as possible to your prop and pitch accordingly.. With enough blade area under the boat, in a trawler/towing application, you can make 100 HP put harder than 300 HP that has tiny props..
