September 11, 2022 at 3:54 pm Tony, Rob and the forum in general, I just re-read the article “Boost, EGT and Horsepower” and I think I have my answer but I am going to ask anyway.Ā  First the operating context.Ā  Yesterday(Saturday) we left the dock and were headed to our favorite swimming hole on the North side of Kelley’s Island on Lake Erie.Ā  We did our usual multi-stage warm up.Ā  Start the engines just before loosing dock lines then a 5-7min no wake run a…

November 6, 2023 at 7:33 am Tony, Both of my risers are the Doomed to fail type.Ā  Both port and starboard have been off the turbos twice in the last 3 seasons and I have personally looked at the exhaust side of both turbos and they are not showing any signs of ingesting water.Ā  Fresh water boat and it is on my list to replace them but at this point in time I am going to run with them, as they are in “good nick”. Ā  My Eyes are wide open on this item. Steve

July 6, 2022 at 10:47 am Hello Forum, We have been hard at work on our 2005 460 Sundancer with 480CE’s.Ā  We are part way through the second season with this boat and have made material progress in our list of projects and have 1 “big one” left to go. So far here is what we have done and the results of those efforts: Immediately after purchase we had the cooling circuit fully serviced off engine.Ā  Since this is a fresh water boat the coolers came apart …

May 12, 2023 at 5:59 am WW, We are a little over the curve as well.Ā  We usually run 2220 – 2250.Ā  We have Smartcrap display so I do not see load.Ā  I only see total fuel burn not individual.Ā  in our full cruise load/trim we burn 30gph at 2250 and are usually running about 22.5mph and then as fuel burns off or we get a following sea and/or breeze we might get up to 24mph.Ā  We are about 10feet longer and 4ton heavier and in fresh water.Ā  Work got in the way yesterda…

    • Remove LF9009 Filter 480CE Starboard

This topic has 6 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated bySteve Lewis 2 years ago

September 27, 2021 at 11:37 am I tried searching a few compound terms and came up empty. I also looked through Tony’s Tips and did not find anything about this specifically. I am about to change the oil for the first time on my 480CE’s and transmissions. I am good to go on everything except 1 process. How do I remove the LF9009 on the starboard engine without causing a HUGE mess? I am not able to post a picture to this original message so I will post a pic as…

September 28, 2021 at 6:31 am lpmcc, Thank you. That is how I had envisioned it in my head. I do think I need to position the new filter behind all of the lines and other filters before I fill with new oil. I have all of the oil and filters I just need to get an empty bucket, suitable plastic freezer bags and some diapers. I am going to write my own procedure manual so that I can do it in my words. That will help me cement the process in memory as well as having a futur…

April 25, 2021 at 7:05 am We went on our Sea Trial yesterday of a 2005 460 Sundancer with 480CE’s. 600hrs. We had Tom Hill from T-Diesel along for the ride and had his computer hooked up while we were doing the test running. The props and engines have been worked on previously based on Tom’s observations of the Starboard engine but it must have far enough in the past that the work did not show up on the records we were able to procure. We did find that th…

June 21, 2021 at 7:06 pm Leave 2 days earlier, run slower longer days and some modifications to the daily destinations and looks like we are good. Mother Nature needs to cooperate some but that is one of the reasons we have a larger boat. To handle the slop on not so nice days. Thank you again for keeping it real and giving good guidance.

March 23, 2021 at 12:35 pm My wife and I have an accepted off in on a boat with 480CE’s. a 2005 Sea Ray 460 Sundancer. I have spent the last few days digging through the Tony’s Tips and Technical Info portions of the site as well as reading some of the threads about the 480, and need a little guidance on something. I am wondering how much of the Diamond 450 technical info is valid for the 480 and how much of it is taken over by the “Hybrid Electronics…

March 25, 2021 at 5:33 pm I just got done reviewing the maintenance records on the 460. No surprises. The owner has been Fastidious in changing oils, all filters and other routine items. He even had the coolant flushed recently. As I figured, nothing has been done in the recent history with any of the coolers so those will get bench serviced when the heads get replaced. I did see a note in the records by one of the techs indicating that the 280IV trans does not have…

February 1, 2021 at 2:28 pm Hello Forum, John Rucker Jeff Vargas and others…….. My wife and I have found what looks like our next boat near Detroit. I have followed my own recommendations and advice(mostly) as it pertains to what to look at on the boat, reviewing maint records etc, but I am looking for some added real world context. We are looking at a 2007 Sea Ray 48 Sundancer. QSC540’s with a little over 900 hours. Boat is Great Lakes fresh water …

February 6, 2021 at 7:04 am Paul, G’day Mate! Thank you for the reply and the data points. It confirms what I am observing and thinking. I have been in a world of theory for the last 3-4 years and now I am about to have things get very real. I was asking so that I can double and triple check. Tony filled in another blank for me, you confirmed my thoughts and Rob reminded me to just trust myself. I like the pictures that you attached. We have “camper canv…

April 15, 2019 at 7:24 pm Seaboard Forums, I spent the entire afternoon watching in disbelief as Notre Dame in Paris France burned. As I reflect on life, I am struck by the simple fact that everyone here on the forum are able to enjoy one of the most amazing joys of life. A day on the water. No mater how much we lament a particular challenge we should all take stock and appreciate what we have. The ability to spend time with our families and loved ones on the water. To…

November 5, 2018 at 7:44 am Hello Forum, I was debating whether to even create this post as I am not sure my “Admiral” will even go for this…… I was poking around and I ran across a Tiara 3600 Open, 2005 vintage, in Marathon Florida that looks interesting. This is one of the boats that is HIGH on my desirable list. Description states “5100 hours on the engines and ~90% of those are at Trolling speed”. I sent 10 questions to the list…

September 18, 2018 at 6:18 am Hello forum members. I am new to the forum but have been reading Tony’s Tips for a couple of years now. I sent him an email yesterday directly and he replied and wrote that instead of emailing him I should post in the forum for all to see. So here is the post and it appears I have been learning…….
