    • QSM11 Dry Exhaust Slip Joint

This topic has 7 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 2 years ago

April 16, 2018 at 8:22 am What seals the slip joint in the QSM11 Dry Exhaust system, it looks like in the Cummins manual on quickserve they show some type of insert/seal, but its no where to be found in the parts diagrams? Is it sealed immediately when the manifold is installed, or does it have to run a few hours and blow a little soot to seal up? Can you use something like Fuchs 762 / Silkalene on the slip joint?

September 29, 2021 at 6:31 am Hi, I have a Sea Ray 400 sedan bridge with twin all-mechanical Cummins 6CTA-8.3M’s in it. They are running great, but as we know, analog helm gauges are only so accurate. My tachs, for example, read 50RPM low on the SB and 50RPM low on the Port. That’s not too big of a deal as I make sure to account for that while operating. But I’d love to see the actual tach readout on my chartplotter. My prior boat was a 320 Sundancer wit…

October 15, 2021 at 6:48 am Steve, short answer is… it is not possible because the screens themselves are the actual N2K gateway. There are other systems out there but they require much more “interaction” to configure and program between the engine and NMEA network. If you’re technically hands on, then that may be the way to go…

    • Rattling or Ticking Noise 6CTA (450 Diamond)

October 18, 2019 at 1:17 pm My starboard engine has been running well. Actually, both have. No complaints with power, performance, or anything. However, when in the engine room today I began hearing a rattle or “ticking” sound. I looked around the engine itself and I didn’t see anything external that is loose that could be causing the rattle sound. So, naturally, Iā€™m imagining the worst … valves. Can anyone offer a rough diagnosis from a video? …

Did he change his oil after every run? ā€“ just kidding but you get my driftā€¦. Rob, it’s no joke. We’ve all heard about the previous owner that maintained his boat “with an open checkbook”. Well, mine did. Not always necessary, but he did. I’m the grateful recipient! As it turns out, this …

    • QSM11 Ceramic Coating of Exhaust Manifold

This topic has 4 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated bySteve 5 years ago

April 16, 2018 at 8:16 am On the QSM11 Dry Exhaust manifold, is there any reason not to have the exterior portions of the exhaust manifold and exhaust side of the turbo coated w/ JetHot’s extreme heat 2500 degree ceramic coating to help push that heat on out of the exhaust system into the mixer instead of so much heat staying in the engine compartment?

August 15, 2018 at 5:43 am I wonder why this wasn’t thought of initially? Money, perhaps? Ceramic coating exhaust systems is very common in the motorcycle world when trying to manage heat. Especially on air cooled engines like those found in Harley Davidson’s. But ceramic coating is also used in automobile exhausts, too. The thing these two applications have in common with the QSM11 is that they are all dry exhausts. I can’t imagine that ceramic coatin…

October 16, 2017 at 8:34 am Hello all, I have a pair of 2004 QSM11’s recently the starboard side engine is burning a little more fuel and running 3-5 degrees hotter and 50-70 RPM’S behind the port engine. Subsequently I cannot hit 2340 at WOT. Previously both engine had no problem hitting 2340. My fuel filters, both the Racors (900’s) and the FS1009 were changed at 1180 hr, currently the engines have 1293 hrs. The bottom cleaned and props checked in th…

August 14, 2018 at 8:18 am Hi, After propping down from 35ā€ to 33ā€ and retuning and balancing the props I have experienced some changes which Iā€™ll post here. The port and starboard engines are running closer temps at 1820 RPM cruise and 23 MPH speed: Temps @ 163p / 165s GPH 17.6p / 18.9s The engines are running better than before at all RPMs and make rated RPM of 2300 on both with WOT of 2360p / 2330s. Tony, in answering your response. Yes, I did repitch my props and it d…
