February 5, 2023 at 7:37 am Doing aftercooler and heat exchanger maint on the boat this off-season. Ā First time I will be draining the coolant side to pull Heat Exchangers off and clean, has bee done by previous owner. Ā Just looking to check for any other PMs I should be doing being I will be draining coolant side. thermostats are originals, and CC pump is original. Ā No issues noted with either, just curious what I should add to the list being I have the opportunity. 2006 …

February 6, 2023 at 8:34 am As suggested to me by a good friend, with the coolant drained, put 1/8 NPT valves in place of the antifreese drain plugs. Ā Add a length of properly rated hose and you will have less of a mess next time you change antifreeze. Ā  McMaster-Carr has the appropriate valves. Ā Part # 4794K13 Bronze Compact On/Off Valve 1/8 NPT, Part # 44555K124 Low Pressure Barbed Tube Fitting for 1/4ā€ ID with 1/8 NPT.

August 15, 2021 at 2:29 pm 3 month old 19 SI alternator 105 amp on a qsb 5.9. Alternator on port side does not have an output until the engine reaches 1200 RPM. Iā€™m sure someone has dealt with this before, any input on how to correct the issue? Issue is only on the port side, starboard side puts out 13.7 V at 600 RPM

August 15, 2021 at 4:57 pm Tony I can get pictures when I get down to the boat next time. The excite wire (1) isnā€™t wired to anything. The sensing wire (2) is wired back to the + on the alternator. This is how the arrangement was before replacing the alternator.

September 12, 2020 at 7:54 am Recently purchased a boat with 2006 qsb 5.9s in it. Previous owner replaced starboard aftercooler and I replaced port side this past offseason for peace of mind. Also replaced both raw water pumps as they were original as well as the transmission coolers. My question is what is the typical life expectancy on the heat exchangers? This offseasonā€™s upgrades plans are installing raw water flush connections, and raw water flow alarms as well as re…

September 12, 2020 at 1:16 pm Getting 20 yrs from a Cummins Heat-x is real common–Fresh water or fresh water flushing and they may outlast both of us…..Spend your efforts protecting the aftercoolers.

June 20, 2020 at 11:38 am Yesterday when I cycled the ignition key on the fuel lift pump did not cycle on with it. Engine would turn over but not start. Cycled the key switch a few more times with same result. When into engine room and disconnect the fuel pump electrical connection. Slight corrosion but nothing serious, sprayed with contact cleaner and re-installed. After this I cycled the ignition and lift pump turned on. Engine started and ran the boat offshore y…

    • Glendinning controls issue

May 16, 2020 at 12:27 pm Today around 20 minutes into our trip while cruising both Cummins qsb 5.9 engines tripped out of gear from approx 2000 rpms. They immediately went to idle 750 rpms and in nuetral. Every light on the glendinning controls were lit red and flashing with an audible alarm. No engines alarms just the flashing on the throttle controls and inability to get back into gear and raise engine power. By turning the engines off and turning the ignition off I …

May 18, 2020 at 4:56 pm They indicated I likely blew the 3 amp canbus fuse in the EEC 3 processor. Said likely scenario was tower or helm control head short. I isolated the tower control head (being the likely culprit) from the helm unit canbus loop and replaced blown fuse in EEC3 processor. Back in action. Thanks guys. Iā€™m going to determine cost of installing the backup gear/throttle control unit as now I am going to have to purchase a new control head anyway.
