Tony So the Gear is in fact locked up. This gear is not that easy to get out. Limited room and must come out through the floor drop down hatch. 42 Tiara Open and the floor does not lift. Gear weighs about 450 lb. So what do you think is a fair price to R&R the transmission and rebuild it. I am looking for a standard rebuld and 2 guys 2 days to get it out and 2 days to get it back in. Replacing Coupling assembly and flywheel and new trans cooler and hoses. Gaskets, clutch pack, oil, filter turn key. I would like to know about how much this should cost. Ā Thanks Anyone RjGeczi

Day 2 I removed the electronic solenoids and found a small amount of gold metal shavings, I am changing the oil and filter again just as a caution ( only 3 hours on the oil and filter ) I have removed the trans screen and only small amount of particles.

I am going to remove the solenoids from the working trans and try them in the faulty trans and with some luck it may correct the problem.

The reverse solenoid did not have any shaving. The forward solenoid did have gold colored shavings and the oil case strainer screen had some small silver particles only see photos below

Thx Any imput welcome 757-472-9944

Richard Geczi

see new photos So does anyone know what the gold colored shavings are? Is the clutch plates made of this color???

OK, problem solved after 4 days of ______g around in the engine room it turned out that the second item I did on my list (auxiliary solenoid) was defective. You would think New ment NEW.

I also checked all battery connections, all clean and free of corrosion and seem to be tight.

I put a new battery switch in about 2 months ago it was cracked. I did all 3. House, engine, and all. If it was the battery switch I would also have trouble starting the starboard engine. It’s isolated to just the port engine. No trouble at all starting the starboard engine.

Engines have 2655 hours, after coolers serviced per your post and posted on boat diesel when you were moderator. You commented that it was a nice job and I sent you photos. Here are more phots of the crack.

So here is my question. Any help is appreciated.
My Port engine is about 2.5 PSI’s of pressure higher vs my stb engine. The reason its jumping out at me is I just had to replace the Port Turbo do to a bad crack in it at the point it attaches to the exhaust manifold. I just installed the turbo and while out on a sea trial noticed the difference when I was comparing fuel burn, load and boost. The boat runs perfect, its just a concern and wanted feedback as to it being a problem?
I did notice prior that the port engine always burned about 1 to 1.5 Gal per hour more and the load is slightly higher on the port engine, perhaps this is the reason the boost is also slightly higher. Do you feel this is anything to worry about or am I being to picky.Boost Pressure PSI
RPM Port Eng Stb Eng Difference

1700 18.5 16.2 2.3
