December 21, 2020 at 1:14 pm I am installing 2 VDO Viewline Pyrometers (A2C 5351 0907S also know as A2C 5951 2332) for my Yanmar 6LY2A-STC engines. VDO sells a kit for it, but it very expensive. https://www.vdo-gauges.com/instruments-displays-and-clusters/by-type/pyrometer/viewline-onyx-1600-deg-f-pyrometer-12v-with-vdo-sender.html What I need is the Theromocouples and some extension wire (about 20 Feet for each engine). I saw the SMX EGT Pyro thermocouple and was wondering…

exhaust support stanchions
This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
November 11, 2020 at 7:35 pm where can the stanchions be anchored? the pipe has flanges on the ell’s and the mixer. the first flex point is after the mixer. The plan is to put a support stanchion on the mixer. on one engine it will be anchored on the transmission. the other engine pipes run aft of the transmission. I am looking for a point to anchor it on a stringer. There is my question: if I anchor it at the stringer, will engine torque / flex put stress on the flan…
2 RepliesNovember 12, 2020 at 7:59 pm Thank you. The attached photo (img 3413) is close to the way the final configuration will be for the starboard engine. I need to rise the mixer 5 more inches to bring it to the level to meet the 6″ pipe. I have 2 questions: 1. This is a heavy cast iron mixer. Will heavy wall pipe with rubber hose double clamped over it support the weight? Or do I need to make a stronger support? Like welded angle iron? 2. Once I raise the mixer to meet th…

cast iron to stainless exhaust components
This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
August 23, 2020 at 7:09 am What is the opinion of adding a 316 stainless steel exhaust mixer elbow to an existing cast iron riser? The attached photo is a Yanmar 6LY2AM-STPC installation I have. The mixing elbow has to be replaced because of it’s design. This is the way we purchased it, and I need to correct it. I can get a stainless mixing elbow made locally that will put the injection on the down hill side of the high point to prevent flooding the turbo when it l…
2 RepliesAugust 23, 2020 at 8:06 am Thank you. I was planning on salvaging the cast iron bend out (dry) of the turbo and adding a stainless riser & mixing elbow with more rise, and drain downhill in the exhaust exit if (when) it leaks internally. I read Tony’s Tips on exhaust systems and recognize this is a dangerous design as it exists. I want to change that. Is there an issue with electrolysis between cast iron and 316 stainless? Would the different coefficients of ex…

December 25, 2019 at 10:51 am I’m replacing the Tachometers in my Cruisers Yachts 460 Express with VDO Viewline Tachs. I think the flywheel on the engines have 127 teeth. I need to set the pulses per revolution on the tachs. Is it 127? instructions are attached. Thank you
4 RepliesDecember 26, 2019 at 8:55 am The Aetna Engineering sheet uses 129 teeth.
