September 2, 2022 at 12:23 pm I have Cummins QSC 8.3 engines in my 39 Tiara Convertible with 1800 hours.Ā  Recent oil samples revealed slightly elevated levels of copper, it was one year since my last oil change.Ā  Can anyone suggest what causes this and is it a cause for concern? thanks

September 5, 2018 at 1:22 pm Here is a little history and my current issue: I had a bad tank of fuel pumped out and polished in early June, all primary and secondary filters were changed on both engines and the generator. The boat ran fine up until a recent trip where I got a low pressure fuel alarm on the starboard engine and couldnā€™t get either engine to turn up to normal rpmā€™s. Turns out my bottom was loaded with barnacles (the hard paint died when I was out of the wa…

September 6, 2018 at 4:48 am Thanks for the reply Corey, I’ll be at the boat tomorrow to double check but I’m quite sure the codes read: “Fuel Pressure Low” “Fuel Pressure Very High” thanks,

July 22, 2018 at 6:21 am Greetings, I have a pair of QSC 8.3 540 hp with 1200 hours. I recently had a bad tank of fuel, I had the tank pumped, fuel polished and primary and secondary fuel filters changed. I ran the boat for several hours at various speeds and the performance was back to normal. However, after two weeks of no use, if got a low fuel pressure alarm on the starboard engine, that engine ran 15 degrees hot at 2200 rpm under much higher load than normal. A…

February 25, 2018 at 9:57 am I am new to the forum and appreciate the great information I’ve learned so far. A couple of questions: -On my QSC 8.3 540 hp port engine I am leaking oil from the raw water pump seal- can it be rebuilt or is it best to replace it? -New aftercoolers were installed under warranty three years ago ( 350 hours old). I have not been flushing with fresh water ( but will now start after reading the articles) I don’t see any evidence of bl…

February 26, 2018 at 5:11 pm Hi Michael and welcome to the forum, Based on Tony’s recommendations, if your engine is operated in salt water, then your aftercoolers should be taken apart and serviced as per his protocols every 2 to 3 years if not fresh water flushed. You can go longer if they are regularly flushed. If they were not taken apart and greased when first installed, then they are really due for service. If they were my engines, I would service them prior to …
