December 10, 2022 at 11:18 pm I have twin QSB 5.9 – 440 HP Cummins and want to get the engine data displayed on my RayMarine MFD’s as well as the SmartCraft Vesselview display. Has anyone fitted the Yacht Devices J1939 Engine Gateway – YDEG-04N  to a Cimmins engine  and ifso, how did it work out ? I am told I can insert the new harness inline with the Port or Stb engine plugs on this control panel. The STB engine plug is marked by the red arrow. Supposedly …

February 7, 2023 at 8:03 pm I tried the Yacht Devices interface Smartcraft to NMEA2000 to Raymarine Axiom.  After weeks of back and forth with the factory in Lithuania,  we could not get it to work. I’ll probably end up getting the Mercruiser interface but just don’t want to spring for it right now.

July 10, 2020 at 9:16 am hello I have a qsm11 with the lower 405hp rating with 8000 hours. it is in a commercial scallop boat with a 3to1 gear and is more than enough power for the application. upon return from a 20 hour trip this morning, I noticed oil in my overflow coolant bottle. I know everyones first thought is head gasket but this motor has never ever gotten hot, its raw water cooled and I have never seen it go above 182 degrees. the boat is a non planing novi …

    • QSM11 Dry Exhaust Slip Joint

This topic has 7 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 2 years ago

April 16, 2018 at 8:22 am What seals the slip joint in the QSM11 Dry Exhaust system, it looks like in the Cummins manual on quickserve they show some type of insert/seal, but its no where to be found in the parts diagrams? Is it sealed immediately when the manifold is installed, or does it have to run a few hours and blow a little soot to seal up? Can you use something like Fuchs 762 / Silkalene on the slip joint?

October 17, 2019 at 5:37 pm I have 2006 6ctas with 4,803 hrs in a 1978 42 chris craft sport fisherman.. salt water boat. My port motor seems to have an oil leak on the back of the motor at the bottom of the head. does not seem to be the valve cover or anything else. Is this a head leak or even possible. Am I missing something. It is not enough to cause and oil drop over a season compared to the starboard side. Oil consumption maybe 2 quarts over 100-150 hrs a season e…

January 19, 2022 at 11:48 pm Yes it was.  There is a oil passage in that corner,  The old style gasket ( I was told) the rubber compression seal failed, maybe got hard. It was the source of the leak.

January 5, 2022 at 9:17 am Is this boat named “Quiet Storm”? If so………. Looking at the pics the turbo has what I would consider reasonable heat discoloration for 2K hours.  I can not quite tell, but the usual spots for noticing soot from the exhaust manifold look relatively clean.  The “Run your finger on the metal” test will really speak volumes.  If your finger is clean(no soot) then odds are your manifolds are not leaking yet.  …
