April 26, 2019 at 1:13 pm Iā€™ve sent Tony Athens these same pictures for review, but wanted to get a thread going with my progress for all to see. Twin QSBs. ACs have been serviced 1x by a previous owner (there were 4). I donā€™t believe they removed the AC and bench serviced. Iā€™ve only done my stbd AC at the moment. Slight green corrosion on both caps. No performance issues pointing me to any problems. Caps came off easily as expected. Top zinc was mostly intact …

April 26, 2021 at 11:57 am Roky, you could always give distilled white vinegar a try too. My last aftercooler service interval was rather short so tubes weren’t bad and the vinegar cleaned them up nice.

January 12, 2021 at 3:32 pm Installed on both of my 6BTA5.9 M3 engines. Nice simple design and seems to work well. Installation was very easy except that I had to run around town for a couple hours trying to find a couple 70 cent 9/16″ x 18 ORB parts to properly plug the ports where the removed Walker AirSeps drained into the oil pan. For a $350 kit I think Seaboard should include the oil pan plug.

November 22, 2019 at 2:37 pm I need some additional help to identify which belt I need for my 6BTA5.9-M3 CPL 1975 S/N 46160878 and 46160385 engines. I have Delco Remy alternators P/N 3934778 which appear like the “Large Frame Alternator” in the Seaboard picture. I have the idler pulley. My alternator frame mounts in-between the mounting bracket arms like the green belt picture but unlike the “Large Frame Alternator” which mounts forward of the mounti…

May 4, 2019 at 6:34 am I have 2 6CTA motors (1500 hrs) and each has an 8D starting battery. I have to replace one and would like to switch to something more portable. What are some reasonable alternatives? I have a Pro Mariner charger that supports gel or lead acid. Also, what is the best procedure for ensuring the alternator is not over charging? That might have been the reason one of the 8D’s over temped. Thanks, Steve

April 30, 2019 at 8:14 am I’ll be jacking up the 6BTA engine to R&R the mount bracket and water pump. The thing is, it’ll be sitting on the jack for a week or more as I live far from the boat and need time to do the work at home. Is it hard on the hull bottom to leave the engine supported on the jack for that long? I’ll have it on a 2×10 board about 3 feet long… and cushioned against the oil pan with a 2×4.

May 1, 2019 at 7:18 pm I had the dilemma also – I actually left the gearbox end chocked and jacked for a few days I just used timber between the plywood bearers to stop the engine dropping if the jack gave way – I know my hull is between 1 and 1.5″ thick though.. I used 1″ thick ply as my bearers in as large a sheet as I could fit under the engine and on the hull. When I did the pump end I blocked the bracket to the stringer as I had to wait fo…

    • Blinking preheat light 6BTA

November 4, 2018 at 8:04 pm I have a 2002 Bayliner 3988 with Cummins 330s. When I am running fast around 2400 RPM and above for extended periods like 30 minutes my STBD preheat light blinks at a constant rate of about once every second. If I slow down, it continues to blink but If I stop and restart the engine there is no blinking until I run at high RPM for extended time again. All other temps are normal. Wide open throttle is about 2900 RPM and even at that speed all tem…

November 5, 2018 at 5:21 am The air heaters are controlled by the ECM based on time, rpms, IMT and low voltage. Bayliner did their own thing when it came to setting up the helm gauges, alarms, etc. With a twin setup you have the option of comparing how things operate and swapping components for troubleshooting. Have you been on the Bayliners forum? A good place for Bayliner-specific things..
