thanks for the history, i cross fingers with my hurth and hope repitch propellers will give some fresh air to the gear…

i ‘d like to share with you my story of my baylinerS, in fact one 3988 of 1995 and one 3988 of 1997… the first one was reshipped to US and a brand new one was given back to us… why?

in fact, the first one was hino powered but that’s not the problem, when the ship was lifted out dor winter ,the mechanic noticed cracks on the hull, after investigations it appears that the hull was too thin and to avoid a trial they send us back a brand new one with cummins because it was 2 years later and during that time they changed engine supplier… the reason was that in this factory the workers were pushed to make a maximum number of boat and the result was that they closed the factory… a sad story. but we are glad to have cummins and no Hino anymore because they were more smoky compared to cummins… andĀ  a new boat by the same way!!!

    here it’s 8 pm, goodnight!

Thank you, the boat is still out for winter so i’ll talk with my mechanic if he can remove the propellers and make them repitch. And i found on the bayliner owners forum that there is a problem in the 3988 with cummins/hurth… It looks like, if i understood everything, that the link beetween engine and hurth is wick so it break, not the engine, the hurth… Even in the meridian with 425 it’s still the hurth 800 with the link problem… The pb doesn’t comme from cummins neither hurth, it looks like it comes from bayliner because it’s them who make the link between the engine/gear so reduce pitch i think is even more crucial on my boat…

Thank you, i’ve just read the cummins discussions and learned already a lot such as the 370 is the same as 330 under 2800… we have also repitched Ć  few years ago because we were unable to make 2800 because tender, davits, bikes, stuff… And now, first sea trial after winter, full fuel, no water, no food, clean hull we make 2800. We have Hurth gear.Ā

Yes, the bayliner dealer where we bought the boat is also a very good mechanic and change parts that really need to. He change the belts when it is necessary and not with the engines hours… One good thing is that he cleaned the heat exchanger last season, it was really necessary…I touch wood, the engines have been trouble free since new.
