Hello Everyone,
The boat has had smoke come from the bell housing, and smell like burnt rubber twice over the last year.
The first time was on the sea trial. We ran the engine up to 2700-2800 rpm’s , the engine began to vibrate , smoke came from the bell housing and had the smell of burnt rubber. We brought the throttle back down and it stopped.
Then this July I was running back
on a trip and decided to bring the engine up to 2300rpms. Once again vibration, some smoke
and the smell of burnt rubber. I brought the rpm back down to cruising 1600-1900, and it stopped.
I don’t really notice any rubber pieces or dust as if the flywheel torsion coupler were failing. Could
It be possible the shaft or the propeller were so out of whack that they caused the vibration and friction to the torsion coupler? When a torsion coupler is failing would it be felt through the whole rpm cycle, or like what I experienced?
Thanks for any input,
Paul
