I have just purchased an Carver 530 Voyager 2000. The attached Oil Sample Report has 151 Iron content. The attached report shows 2 previous sample reports. Should I be concerned? I just changed the Oil & Filters yesterday and I have a 7 day trip coming up. I was thinking that I might take another sample when I get to the end my trip and see what comes back. Just incase its somehow a mistake. FYI-Both Transmissions were replace sometime around 2009. Just going off serial numbers.

    Thank you!

    Tony,

Thank you for your quick response. I did not save the filters. Just didn’t think of it but I will just check the things you mentioned and monitor it. Probably do oil samples when I get the boat 7 days south to see if I get the same results. Oil that was taken out was real clean. Only had about 300 hours on it.

Realistically, there is nothing you can do.. Be sure the gears lever is moving to where it is in the full detent (ifĀ  mechanical shift) and continue to march forward with your plans…Ā  If the oil looks clean, is not dark or smells burnt,Ā  and they work fine, 99% it’s nothing.

If you saved the old filter, cut it open to see what is inside.

What exact engines?Ā  The ZF301A is a “good” gear built with some old school technology..
