See pics and video.
I had an exhaust leak that clogged my After coolers. Installed new SMX aftercooler core and new Envirovent CCV.
I see smoke out of CCV breather on the port motor, but not really out of the starboard motor.
Should I try adjusting the height of the CCV breather? I remember Cory mentioning something about that.
Or maybe I have the CCV breather too far away from the air filter? I could certainly move it closer so that there is better suction?
Can’t seem to add pics until the second thread….

They are CPL 1975s
2001 6BTAs 330hp

I had one of my Oil Pressure Gauges doing the same thing. Unplugged main engine harness sprayed some contact cleaner on the plugs and plugged back in. Reading normally again.

Valve cover CCV Envirovent risers are custom to each application.. Need a measurement–Think about it… Drop Brendan a note–He makes them..
Prop—————-What exact engine? There are not less than 10 Cummins engines called 6BTA’s
August 21, 2021 at 5:29 pm #119735How do I buy the risers? They are not there on-line
The envirovent risers for the valve covers do not appear to be sold separately?
And yes will follow everything else recommended to the letter.
Also any opinion on my prop situation described above?

August 21, 2021 at 1:50 pm #119730Which problem does this solve?
Thanx so much for responding.
I was lost and very worried.
So the Envirovent risers will stop the oil puking problem, the smoking problem or both? I will order them today.
I know all diesels have blow by, but how do you tell if you have bad blow by?
Dip stick calibration will be next on the list.
Have to admit I “was” keeping the oil level topped off until I read about the dipsticks a few weeks ago.
I can check my oil 5 times in a row at the dock, even on the lift, and get 5 different readings. The dip sticks seem to have minds of their own.

Dip Stick Calibration & Envirovent Mod
Not stumped at all and I really do not think you did anything wrong.. You just need to make a simple mod to your Envirovent system and be 100% sure you are not over filling your engines–You need to calibrate your dip sticks PER THIS article–Ignore and old lines unless they are correct. That’s number 1
Then, since you have the room above your valve cover, you need to upgrade your Envirovents with risers.. At lease one of your engines has extra blow-by.. ………………But do them both.
Could you not have used the front timing cover version?
August 21, 2021 at 11:20 am #119714anybody out there?
Any opinions at all?
Noticed one more symptom. about a 1/2 inch of oil in the puke bottle on the starboard motor. Port was bone dry. I only ran her for an hour. and only about 15 minutes on plane.
August 20, 2021 at 9:38 am #119681I guess I have everyone stumped? Here’s more info
Put a manual oil pressure gauge on the port engine and it reads about 60 psi, just like it used to. so guessing bad gauge and not related to my actual problem.
Removed oil fill cap on both motors and sat it there while running. both caps danced a bit on top of the valve covers, but never enough for them to slide off. Smoke out of the port (just like the CCV vent).
Two diesel mechanics here (who saw the shape of the aftercoolers) suggested that since the oil pressure was fine and the temps appeared to be ok, it might be just so much oil still all through the system and I should run her up and down the river. Now both are smoking about the same and not in a good way.
The good news is she came up on plane (she didn’t before), but it took forever and maxed out at about 2650 rpm laser tach corrected. Likely a different issue as I just had the props done basis what was stamped on them (20×22) and I added a slight cup. Looking now like I might need to get rid of the cup at the very least and maybe these props were already altered to a different pitch before I bought the boat. Should I ditch the the slight cup or drop to about 21 pitch or both?
By the way she was running about 3 mph faster at 2200 rpm than before and hitting close to 30 mph topped out even at the lower than normal WOT RPM. This can’t be good for my motors. Need to get the props off this weekend.
August 19, 2021 at 1:03 pm #119655Tried to capture a pic of the smoke
Also I just noticed another symptom.
Prior to me cleaning the aftercoolers and doing the envirovent CCV both motors would start up, the buzzers would sound, the oil pressure would move to about 50ish and the buzzers would turn off.
Today the starboard engine does just that.
The port engine fires up, the buzzers sound, then an odd thing happens. The oil pressure needle pegs at past 150 psi then bounces down to 80 psi, then the buzzer turns off.
What the heck??????
Do I all of a sudden have huge oil pressure and its blowing smoke out the CCV????
Help!!!!!!!!!
