    Starboard engine not reaching WOT only hitting 2900, Port will make 3200rpm I’ve attached a spreadsheet with rpms, boost and egt values on both engines, please have a look. Testing was done with full load of fuel, water, 5 persons and Gear/food for a week.   Port engine 150hr/3year old major rebuild, runs great, little white smoke at startup, makes WOT 3200. Port engine WOT (3200) has steady even 30 PSI boost. Starboard engine 700 plus hours, long crank startup, rough idle until warm. Performs decently once warm and idles down nice, even while trolling on it alone.  some obvious lack of power compared to port engine when you run one up vs the other, but hums right along at 2500rpm, been this way for years Im pretty sure, just rarely push the engines very hard… Starboard engine at WOT (2900) has boost pressure 26-30 psi and “hunts” up and down fairly rythmically. notice through out rpm range higher boost pressures than port engine (see spreadsheet). Maintenance or lack there of Starboard Engine: New Fuel Filters New fuel return pressure regulator “poppet” upgraded “new style” Bosch OEM Injectors per Cummins recommendation Inspected turbo, veins look good, not rubbing on housing, spins nice, no major oil passing through, no radial play. Have not tested injection pump supply pressure (waiting on gauge and bajo bolt) Have not pulled and cleaned combustion air cooler (but have flushed saltwater side, engine temps hold nicely maybe 8 degrees hotter on starboard) have not checked injection pump timing (looks like someone had been in there though).   what do you fellas think next steps are?  boost/egt data and engine data plate attached

    Post some good pictiures of the engine installation–Be sure I see the turbo and exhaust connected to it

    Luckily we store on the dry, so the seacock isn’t an issue…

    I am not seeing much black smoke, but I should probably pull that cooler off and have it gone through, fairly easy to get at…

    Wonder if anyone would chim in on the Hunting I’m seeing in the boost pressure at WOT, that is an intersting effect I haven’t seen before…  What could it be???  Why are boost pressures higher on engine that is under performing, Is it just working that much harder?

    If you are handy with a wrench and the strbd side has easy access you could dismount and open up the aftercooler and rule the cooler in or out as the offending item.   There are good videos in the Seaboard YouTube channel that show you how to do it.  Granted they model on the 6BTA but the ideas translate.   <br /><br />

    our boat has VDrives so the port side is the easy side for this kind of effort.  If you are able to close the thru hull water intake fitting you can do this with the boat in the water.  <br /><br />

    if you follow Tony’s guidance on Aftercooler service then every 2 years in salt water OR 4 years in fresh water.

    Aftercooler on Port (Good side) was fully run through by Seattle Radiator at time of rebuild.

    Starboard side has never been cleaned as far as air side is concerned(by me). I did a long acid flush on the saltwater side when the other engine was out during rebuild and it looked very clean upon inspection (not that the air side was clean).

    My thoughts are that either I’m having an issue with a dirty charge air cooler, or my Injection pump is needing a rebuild/timing issue, or  maybe an issue with fuel supply at WOT???

    Suppose I should tackle all of the above, but damn….  Hoping the big brains on here can help me narrow it down a bit LOL…

    How many years and hours since last full service on the aftercoolers?   There are 2 sides to each cooler.  The airside and the water side.  If the airside is dirty, that can restrict intake flow.  That is a reasonable place to start.  Depending on conditions, the fins on the airside can get dirty and cause issues.   <br /><br />

    When you advance to WOT is there any dark smoke in the strbd exhaust?
