I have a similar issue with the Sea Strainer being under the exhaust, and I cannot get the basket out to clean. Moving the strainer is on my “to do” list.

For Now I use a Wet Vacuum to clean out the basket as needed.

My suggestion is more work. Move the strainer body to the side so the basket can be removed.
If it ever gets plugged with seaweed , or whatever, if the basket can’t be removed it may be VERY difficult to clear.
THe move may require a bracket to secure the strainer body. It could even be on an angle to the side so the basket can be accessed and the strainer supported properly. Maybe a 45o elbow to face it over or two 90o elbows to simply move it over with a short hose between the two 90o. But it will need support.

THe TEE fitting is a good way to deal with flushing and antifreeze though regardless if you move it or not.

I may be all wet but just my thoughts.

You can plumb the fresh water flush fitting to a more convenient location.
Iā€™ve got mine on deck, so flushing is super easy!

Either, or. Depends on the install location/access, etc. Do what makes it convenient to use and service.

Adding that really adds nothing as to increase in potential failure when considering all else that is going on below the waterline in boats like these. And remember, that will be on the suction side.

Install one of these in the 2′ suction hose?
