I am helping a friend move a boat he has just bought from Baltimore to LI. The boat has no spares onboard so we wanted to get everything before we went down to it. Can anyone tell me what model Racor filter is used for the Cummins 6BTA 370?

The 6BTA 370s in my former 31 Blackfin had Racor 900s. 10 mic filters used, never a problem.
The 6BTA 370 in my lobster boat has a single FS1000 with an SMX filter head with squeeze bulb setup.

Thanks guys. Yes I figured a clean plane was the most important thing here.
On the exhaust the pics show the riser going up about 3-4″ straight out of the turbo unlike most bad exhaust systems I have seen where they immediately turn down and then into what is hoped to be a self draining injection elbow. So it looks like at least someone knew to do something right. I can’t tell height above the water line until I see it for myself.
A pic from the listing showing the elbow is attached.

Oops missed that…
Disregard my comment about the rpm but definitely take a look at those shops. I just used S&S and am satisfied with the workmanship. The proof will be this weekend when I get the boat out.

6BTA 370 Rated at 3,000 RPM
Brian,
The 370 is rated at 3,000, not 2,800 like your 330.David,
As you know, that’s pushing it a bit but probably better than if you start backing off and she begins falling off of a clean plane…May 21, 2019 at 12:17 pm #69866

If the she makes 2850 you hit the nail on the head for the most part as long as the boats not loaded too heavily after that. The engines rated for 2800 min and the target value around here is about 2925 fully loaded. IMO 2850 is not over propped as long as the boat is not overloaded.
Your two choices for prop shop on the Island would be Bossler & Sweezey in Bellport and S&S in Queens. I’ve used both and have confidence in both.
First things first service the aftercooler’s per Seaboard protocol and like Rob mentioned get an eye on the exhaust elbow.

Yes, definitely 6BTAs or at least that is what the engine survey says ;-).
Another question. The engine survey showed that they would only reach 2,850 at wot, presumably photo calibrated rpms. So definitely over propped and I have told my buddy to find a good prop shop (know one in central LI?) to take about 2″ of pitch off of the props.
But for now on this 300 NM delivery would I be ok to run them at 2,400?
Oh and he got a newish NL genset to top it off.

Nice. That’s good, hopefully it doesn’t have the Seaboard Signature Doomed Exhaust.
Definitely 6BTA’s, not 6CTA’s ?

Thanks Rob. Yes I would definitely think the 500 is undersized. I was guessing 1000 but didn’t know about the 900. The engine survey doesn’t say, but my next step is to call him and ask if he remembers.
My friend got a pretty sweet deal: A Searay 410 which comes with 7 liter Mercruisers but was repowered with a pair of 6BTAs all for the gasser price.

David,
I’ve seen all three – the 500, the 900 and the 1,000 series in use for a 6BTA, although the 500 is undersized. New purchase ……. Maybe the survey has the Racor series/model number specified?
