QSB5.9 – Holset HX40 v Cummins Turbo

Hi

I recently bought a Galeon 420 that has a pair of QSB 5.9 Cummins – fantastic!

Unfortunately the previous owners didn’t take good care of her so I’m working my way through servicing and replacing various bits – it’s starting to add up!

Whilst looking to replace the injectors and the turbocharger I noticed that these were off the shelf parts from other companies with Cummins badge on them with a much lower price.

For example the Cummins turbo is a Holset HX40 – is it ok to just buy and install the Holset HX40?

I noticed the same with the injectors.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your answer – that’s good news.

I had no idea Holset were owned by Cummins.

I also saw that Bosch were the OEM on various bits for Cummins as well.

I’ll keep my eye out.

I have had good luck buying Holset & Bosch components from Holset & Bosch dealers vs. Cummins dealers.  As I understand it Holset is owned by Cummins but Cummins still adds a very large markup when selling through dealers.

That said, I don’t know the p/n of your turbo and whether or not you can get it from a Holset dealer vs. a Cummins dealer, but if the Holset dealer is legit and the p/n’s match, I wouldn’t hesitate.
