I recently finished rebuilding a 6CTA and I´m having trouble with the Oil Pressure. Any ideas are appreciated.

The engine runs great. Cold start builds 60psi. After the engine is warm pressure drops to 40psi at 2200 RPM. After continued running at 2,200 the pressure drops further to 25 PSI. Engine idles at 10PSI after running.

Besides less than ideal oil pressure, my main concern is that the oil pressure is inconsistent / jumpy.

I verified all information with a mechanical gauge, which is inline with the eclectic gauge at the helm. Oil level is just above the low mark.

I´m trying to link a youtube video for viewing,
So far, I´ve done the following to try to figure it out:

1. Inspected Oil pressure regulator

2. Inspected oil pressure relief valve

3. Replaced Oil pump

4. Replaced oil filter

At this time, my only idea is the pickup tube gasket. I installed this dry which may have been a mistake.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Hunter

I’d be happy with 40 psi at cruise. However the pressure drops to 20-25 psi after about 10 minutes.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Startup mine runs 60-75 lbs. after running at cruise it stays around 40. When idling back after hard run it drops to 20 lbs. if I do a quick drop from cruise to idle it may drop to 8-10 when oil is hot. Bumping up RPM a little it comes up to around 20. If throttle up to cruise it is back to 40. Have read several others with the same observation.
