oil leak after raw water pump replacement

Had an new SMX 1730 Seawater Pump installed on my starboard Cummins 6BTA-M3 about 6 weeks ago. When i hauled it last week, found out i had lost about one gallon of oil out of that engine, floating in the bilge. I’m not a mechanic….but was wondering if anyone who is could tell me if this install could possibly have led to the loss of oil into the bilge? Thanks.

Not much to offer without good pictures but maybe the football flange gasket was not replaced or was left out altogether?
