Ordered the after cooler heat exchanger kits. I just bought the boat so I ordered the O-rings that go on all the pipes. They got delivered today and some of them seem very close in size. Do I just try to size them up to the old ones or is there a picture I can look at and match up part numbers. Thanks for the help George

Al VogtParticipantO- Rings for Aftercooler
All I can tell you about proper O-rings for the Aftercooler is they should fit the groove in the cap. PERFECTLY!! I got a kit and it was the wrong one. The difference is so slight/little. Double or triple check to make sure youāve got the right ones. If theyāre not correct, youāll be buying the Cummins overhaul kit after sucking sea water into your cylinders. ( 1st hand knowledge ) Tony tip was dead on. If you have the slightest doubt, take pics. Theyāll help. If youāre still scared, let a cummins marine shop do it. It might be worth the couple hundred bucks. Itās not hard, though. After fitting the correct o ring in the cap, take them back off, grease the lid well, install the o ring again and grease again. Wipe off excess grease after youāve bolted them down. Bolt then down evenly. Like you would with lug nuts on a wheel. Best of luck to you. 19 yrs and 6000 hrs and they still scare th heck outta me! Lol
ps. If you see steam, not smoke, youāve got a problem.

Tony Those pics are good but the O-rings I’m talking about are on the pipes you took off to get them out. The chrome ones. I think I can match up the old ones but a few are very close in size here are the part numbers of the gaskets that I could use your help getting right 144582 145583 3866633 145582. Are there manuals available for these motors that would have all this info in them? Like pics and brake downs with part numbers. If so could you get me a price on them I like to have something to reference when I take things apart. Thanks

QSC Aftercooler Servicing
Do the pictures in this link help?
You can reuse the tube o-rings–just grease them up good.
I think we sell the tube o-rings separate, but I’m thinking we should just add them and have them all in one-kit.

Tony I’m servicing the after cooler and heat exchanger on a QSC. When I removed the metal pipes that attach to each. The ones that the sea water flows through. I saw that there were O-rings on those pipes. I guess since you don’t include them with your service kit they don’t always need to be changed. I just bought the boat so I was not sure when they were changed last. There are two that are very similar in diameter but one is much thinner. I was hoping there was a picture that you could post with the part numbers so I put the right O-rings in the right places. One of the pipes comes from the fuel cooler and looks like a U. I hope this helps. Thanks

George,
Glad you came aboard….
Now to your question..
I am completely out of the ordering loop so you need to be a tad more specific..
1) What EXACTLY are you servicing” Please componenet by component.
2) If you cannot sort it out intuitively as to what goes where, then you need to post “pics” that show what you are trying to sort out..
In the end, it is all all very simple, but if you need a little “one-on-one” the Seaboard Team is here to guide you.. But, Ā we do not have a crystal ball, so pics along with your questions are needed..
