2005 Kohler 15.5 EOZ Generator with 1,568 hours. Out of the blue, generator will not start. No prior indication of an issue. When I press either the remote start or the one on the generator itself I get a fast banging noise from the starter. Checked the battery and it’s fine with voltage and a load test. Figured it was the starter so I removed that and brought it to a mechanic shop. They tested it and said it was fine. Put it back on after cleaning all the connections and same issue. It sounds like the solenoid is closing and the starter is engaging the flywheel but it won’t turn it? Does that sound plausible and if so what does that mean? Could this engine have seized out of the blue?

Thanks I am struggling with next steps

    Rob

I should have followed up on this…

turned out to be a bad ground. Mechanic got on board. Listened for 2 seconds, tightened the ground bolt on the chassis and the engine fired right up. Tightening of bolt = $5, knowing to tighten that bolt = $150…..

Hydro-locked? Back out injectors and try cranking.
