    Hello,

I purchased a new pair of Coolant Overflow Bottles from SB (https://www.sbmar.com/product/cummins-marine-coolant-overflow-bottle/) to repair leaky bottles/plumbing causing me to lose coolant on my 1989 6BT 210s. The new bottles are the same size, but have the hose barb at the bottom, while my old bottles had a barb integrated with the cap with a straw inside. This means that the outlets on the new bottles they will extend well below the main coolant expansion tank on the engine. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of vertical clearance in my engine room to mount them much higher and still be able to pour coolant into them.

Can I install the new bottles in the same location, using a longer run of hose to plumb them to the engine? Or does the level of the outlet on the bottle make a difference relative to engine’s main coolant expansion tank?

    Pictures attached – thanks!

Sounds good. On my current boat prior owner had them down between the stringers (in picture ahead of the outboard engine). I relocated them up higher.

Got it – ill try to see if I can get them a few inches higher and go from there. Thanks!

    Coolant Recovery Bottle Mounting

Higher is always better but as long as you are above the crankshaft centerline you are okay by the book. See attached from the printed Cummins installation documents.
