G’day team.

    Helping my neighbor here with one of his glorious old 555 naturals.

    I think this is just a coincidence, but this occurred right after changing all fuel filters.

    Symptom is; Starts and runs fine, then after a couple of minutes running, engine stall regardless of throttle opening. Will restart quite well immediately, possibly a little bit of fuel starve type misfire. Starts perfectly after sitting for 5 minutes.

    Have checked all filters and lines for vacuum leaks, none found.

    Initially I suspected a faulty relay for the fuel shutoff solenoid, however, it’s performing as needed.

    What I noticed was the pictured round part, which is held down by two screws. Fuel is leaking around it, and if it’s leaking fuel, I suspect it can also suck air.

    Can anybody tell me;

    a. what is this?Ā

    b. do you agree it’s the likely cause of the issue described?

    c. How do I go about repairing this? The last thing I need is springs and balls flying everywhere.

    Solved.
Bad fuel solenoid intermittently dropping the coil.
The leak is unrelated, bad o-ring.
