Just curious to know of proper muffler sizing for my 6bt 210hp Cummins motors, engines I pulled out had 4” centek mufflers and exhaust piping. Would this size muffler be too small for what I have setup now or is the back pressure too much? I’ve read that sometimes holes are drilled in the fore and aft baffles to help with the flow. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The motors that were pulled were Volvo TMD40B diesels at 124hp, they were setup with single 4” centek mufflers downstream from the turbos about 36” then straight out of the transom. Total system is roughly 7-8 feet long at the max. I’ll post a few photos of the old and new setups. As of now I’m running straight pipes out of the transom with a surge chambers.

It’s the entire design of the exhaust systems that matters, not just the muffler.. Without knowing all, your question cannot be well answered other than you may be able you work your 4″ muffler or MUFFLERS….Did you have a gasser with twin mufflers, or ??
