I removed a thermal switch from the upper port side of my engine (Early 6BT, CPL 742) this morning.  (Cummins part # 194505)   I did some searches but found very limited information on the part.  Is this part just a thermal switch for the high-temperature alarm?  Is this the best location for high temp readings?  I had planned on placing my new coolant thermal switch closer to the thermostat on the top of the block.

It is a switch–Probable normally open and closes on rise ( 205F ish??) Test it in water close to boiling.
