I recently purchased and installed the SmartCraft NMEA 2000 gateway (purchased from sbmar.com) on my 2012 Cabo 32 Express.  The boat is powered by twin Cummins QSB 5.9 425’s with black VIP boxes (2.0, 2.5?), VesselView 1.5 displays, and the “smart” junction box (the one with the CAN P, CAN H, and CAN V led’s and labeling) installed.  Displays are working properly and are getting nmea 0183 data from one of my Garmin screens.  I’m replacing the electronics on board and I’d like to do away with the 0183 wiring, hence the purchase of the nmea 2000 gateway.  I installed the gateway yesterday and my nmea 2000 network now has all of the engines’ data available; however, the communication appears only to be one-way as the vessel view screens are not receiving any of the nmea 2000 data.  I connected the 10-pin harness to the inner connection on the port side of the junction box and the gateway lights illuminated properly.  Did I connect the gateway improperly on the junction box? Or because it’s a CAN P gateway, does it not “translate” nmea depth, temp, and navigation data?

    Thanks,

    Ben

I am interested as well as I have a the same setup and planning to upgrade to a NMEA2000 network.

Can you please explain a bit more how did you wire up your setup?

Also is there any reason you kept the VesselView screens on board considering engine and other data can be displayed on the modern MDF screens?
