Attached is a picture of the Magnesium/Aluminum Anode (fresh water) from the bottom of the Port engine aftercooler.  2003 420DA with Cummins 6CTA 8.3 Diamonds.  All other anodes on the Port and Starboard motors have “Normal” wear.  The port bottom anode has to be replaced yearly due to the heavy decay.  Looking for some advice on troubleshooting why the bottom anode on this motor would wear so quickly.  I have checked all ground wires that are visible.

Appreciate any inputs or if others have seen this as well?

    Many thanks!

Do you have shaft zincs fitted?  If so, is Port noticeably degraded more than Starboard ?

    Other Anodes

    Rob,

All other anodes have similar wear which is minimal.  the only anodes that wear enough to be replaced yearly per the picture I attached are the gen set and port bottom after cooler.  Wondering if dockside power may have some cause as the port side is closest to dock?

How about the other anodes when compared between the Port & Starboard engines ?

    Starboard Engine same position

    Rob,

Logical question would be why does the Starboard engine anode located in the same position not have the same erosion/corrosion?  Any thoughts?

A year change-out for pencil zincs is rather normal IMO.  Consider the location of that anode just upstream from the raw water pump and the fact that it can be affected by erosion as well as corrosion.
