    Hi all,

2001 6CTA 450HP Diamonds. Complete cooling system maintenance done, all coolers, after cooler, impellers, fresh coolant.

During bay test all temps good up to 2150-2200rpm, past that temps began to creep up. At 2500-2600rpm overheat alarm comes on constantly until rpm dropped to under 2300rpm. VDO gauges.

IR gun reading on thermostat housing indicated 165 degrees port, 172 degrees starboard. It is my understanding that the gauge & alarms are in the same panel, VDO gauges.

My mechanic suggests to remove gauges & related panel & send to Lauderdale Speedometer for repair/adjustment.

    Any other advice, common problem?

    Tony are you listening?

    Thanks all, Andy

I won’t comment on the panels and the boards that drive them.

About the I.R. gun. How are you using it. Are you aware of the cone of reading meaning all guns have a range where they see only what you want it to see/read. If you are too far back then the gun will see a much larger area than intended and will average a much to large area resulting in an incorrect reading. Were you shooting at the base of the temperature sensor? Did you paint a flat black spot on that area. FLat black is by far the best colour for good readings. NOT HOSES.

As far as the service done to the cooling system I have posted my tome for you to look through. There is a lot more to the cooling system than you indicated. It is not detailed about the how to but to point out various things many people ignore or don’t know about.

    Rob,

    Thanks for the reply.

I looked at the PCB responses on the board here & also looked at the new PCB on this sight:
    1. I do get that low oil pressure alarm at idle at engines have been run up to operating temp.
    2. How will the engine coolant gauges begin to read properly? Even if the alarm is silenced with a new PCB, looking at the gauges over 200 degrees is a problem.

As I said previously an IR gun reading on the thermostat housing showed 165 & 172 degrees.

    Thanks for all your help,
    Andy (Lindenhurst, NY)

What is the temp gauge reading when the alarm buzzer sounds.

Those OEM circuit boards are problematic. Do a forum search with keyword “PCB” and you’ll have plenty of hits..

Post a pic of your gauges/alarms.
