6bta-330 I’m having problems with the wiring of my engines to the Digital View display panels for boost and transmission pressure gauges.

I installed new 0-150 vdo pressure sending units. the engines already had the VDO transmission pressure sending units installed.

The transmission pressure sending unit is connected to the white wire on the on-engine harness to the display panels. The boost pressure sending unit is connected to one of the pink wires on the on-engine harness to the display panels. The ground wires on both sending units go to a ground bus bar connected to the batteries.

The gauges on both engines, for boost and transmission pressure are maxed out. I think that tells me they are not working.

Also, the hour meter on both of the displays does not work. The trip meter works but not the standard hour meter?

Can someone give me some advice on what I need to do to fox these problems?

    Thanks, Bill

I took your advice and reread the install/user manual again but I did it at the boat this time. The important information, in my case, was the pin locations for the primary and secondary connector.

You were 100% correct, when you said it was wired incorrectly.

    1. I made a mistake in a previous post. The hour meter works but the trip hour meter does not work.
    2. On the primary connector, there is a purple wire in location # 2 where a red wire is supposed to be attached. I assume this wire goes to the start switch.
    3. On the secondary connector, the wires for boost and gear temp are reversed, brown wire in location #3 and the pink wire in location #7. I think I was able to get the boost working by connecting the brown wire in the bilge to the boost sending unit. I’ll know when I take the boat out.
    4. As luck would have it, I had all 4 sending unit’s wire backwards regarding which terminal was negative and which was for the signal. I corrected this problem.
    5. The read outs on the displays are all mixed up. I don’t see the parts for the EGT add on but the EGT gauge shows a reading. The gear temp shows a reading but the gear pressure does not.
    6. There is a white device zip tied to the dash wiring harness. It was a phone jack connector but it’s not connected to anything. Is this supposed to be connected to something?
    7. There is a device connected to the wiring that has a red shrink wrap around it. Is this the battery? The pages on the ecommerce web page do not show this device.
    8. I want to give Tony (and team) a well-deserved compliment on how this system was designed. I went through most if not all of the screens. I can see the display recognizes the sending units attached to the engine. Good job there. Unfortunately for me, the system recognizes a gear temp sending unit even though there isn’t one. It doesn’t see the boost sensor or gear pressure sending units.

    Questions

    1. Can the pin locations on the connectors at the back of the display be swapped for the boost and gear pressure so they are in the correct location?
    2. Based on all of the problems, should I restore the defaults?

I’ve downloaded, printed and read all of those pdfs. I’ll keep plugging away. It seems like I found out why these sending unit’s weren’t connected.

I don’t understand why the reset-able trip hour meter works but the non-re-settable hour meter does not work. I would think they both run off the same signal.

Your only solution is in these files & your  due diligence ( putting your time in)

You have all custom hook-ups and wiring

I am over stressing that all  sending  units match the Cummins VDO specs,  and  then maybe, you test them–( especially the pressure ones– simple to do with a controlled air source) ——specs are posted many places on this web site

Here are the photos. I hope they give you the necessary information.

    1. You will see the installer made a couple of mistakes when he completed the wiring. At the stringer mounted bus, he has the tach (gray) and gear pressure sender (white) wires swapped on the engine harness. (white goes to gray and gray goes to white). The tach works so I believe the gear pressure sender should work too.
    2. The 2 wire pigtail for the pink/black stripe wires is the one you sell with the pink and brown wire set. The pink wire goes to the boost sending unit. The brown is not connected.

    I appreciate your help.

I bought the boat with the electronic gauge panels installed. there are no replacement gauges. I’ll get to the boat today and get the photos. Thanks
