October 7, 2019 at 12:01 pm I’m going to install two (One for each engine) emergency shutoff switches in my tower. These would be used in conjunction with the redundant alarm panel I have mounted there, so I can shut the engines down quickly in an alarm situation. These would be normally closed/momentary open switches which I purchased at Seaboard. I plan on putting them in line on the”hold in” coil circuit for the fuel shutoff solenoid. They would be ene…

    • Engine Mounted Fuel Filter Loosening During Use

September 30, 2019 at 6:49 pm Ran the boat this past weekend and everything was running great. Got back to the dock and smelled a whiff of diesel. Got into the engine room and the on-engine fuel filter on the starboard engine had backed off and was leaking diesel into the bilge pan. I tightened it up to stop the leak and threw a few pigs in the pan to soak up the fuel. I wiped things down good and disposed of the pigs and placed one under the filter to see if it continued to…

    • Harmonic Balancer Bolt Torque

March 28, 2019 at 6:36 am I’m removing my harmonic balancers this weekend so I can replace badly rusted pulleys. I ordered new pulleys and bolts from Seaboard (Thanks Kevin!) and need to know the torque values and any special treatment the new bolts might need such as never seize, threadlocker, rector seal, etc. I have 2001 6BTA’s, 370, CPL 2208. Thanks! Philip

March 28, 2019 at 3:21 pm Yup, the dust cover comes off just like a big knockout. The tensioner mounting bolt calls for 32 lb-ft. As to the idler, the upgraded Grade 8 bolt can get 50-55 lb-ft and lube the threads with engine oil.

April 11, 2018 at 10:44 am All, I had an overheat event the other day. I have a 2001 32′ Topaz express with twin Cummins 370B’s and usually run at 20 knots cruise around 2400 rpms. At WOT, I can get 3100 rpms no problem. Anyway, I was running about 2400 rpm and shredded a serpentine belt on my port engine. The Aqualarm alarm panel and Seaboard sensors I installed worked as expected (I have the SMX 205F temp switch installed at the point on the exhaust man…

April 11, 2018 at 6:26 pm Thanks for the reply Donald! The boat is in Orange Beach, AL and it was used over the winter, so it wasn’t laid up for months like a lot of northern boats. I plan on doing exactly as you suggested with a straight edge to check on the pulley alignment. I am re-locating the coolant overflow tanks so I can get rid of the belt guards and make checking this stuff out a lot easier. I checked all of the pulleys and they all spin smooth with no sl…
